Volkswagen Maintenance Schedule: What You Need to Know Volkswagen Maintenance Schedule: What You Need to Know

Volkswagens are built to last—but like any vehicle, they rely on regular service to stay that way. Sticking to your maintenance schedule will:

  • Improve safety and reliability

  • Helps prevent unexpected costly repairs

  • Boost fuel economy and engine performance

  • Protect your vehicle’s resale value

  • Keep your factory warranty valid (when applicable)

Find your Maintenance Schedule and Warranties on the Volkswagen Canada Website.

Volkswagen Canada Recommended Service Intervals

Volkswagen’s maintenance schedule is based on time and distance, whichever comes first. Here’s a breakdown of the main milestones:

1. Minor Maintenance (Every 15,000 km or 1 year)

  • Engine oil and filter change

  • Brake inspection

  • Tire rotation and pressure check

  • Fluid top-ups

  • Multi-point inspection

  • Service reminder reset

2. Standard Maintenance (Every 30,000 km or 2 years)

  • All items from Minor Maintenance, plus:

  • Battery condition check

  • Brake, cooling system and windscreen washer fluid check

  • Tire pressure monitoring system, condition and pressure check

  • Wiper blade check

  • Comprehensive visual inspection

3. Major Service (Every 60,000 km or 4 years)

  • Coil springs and shock absorbers (front & rear) check

  • Transmission service (as required, DSG/Manual)

  • Extended comprehensive visual inspection

4. Ongoing Maintenance

After the first 60,000 km, VW continues maintenance in 15,000 km intervals, alternating between minor, standard, and major service levels. Your digital maintenance reminder will prompt visits, but PG Performance can also track and advise on service timing.

How PG Performance Supports Your VW

We follow VW's Service Schedule except for their oil change intervals. We see the long term negative impact & unexpected costly repairs of doing 15,000KM oil change intervals and therefore recommend a 7,500KM oil change interval, more info on this can be found here.

We’re not just another shop—we specialize in Volkswagen care. Here’s what makes us the go-to destination for VW drivers:
